Parish Council News
Grants to local organisations
Councillors were pleased to be able to approve a grant of £750
to the Methodist Church to assist it in meeting the costs of
essential repairs to the roof. A grant of £250 was also made to
The Bishopstoke Paro-chial Charities, an organisation providing
subsidised accommodation in Fair Oak to local people in need.
Further information on this is available from the Fair Oak and
Horton Heath Assistant Parish Clerk.
New notice board
Following the removal of the vandalised notice board on
Blackberry Drive, a new board has been installed near the
junction of Fair Oak Road and Stoke Wood Close by the pharmacy
and the doctors’ surgery and thanks are given to County
Councillor Chris Thomas for making some funds available from his
devolved budget.. Notices of local interest for all the boards
should be e-mailed or posted to the Clerk and will be displayed
on a space available basis.
Bishopstoke Carnival
The Bishopstoke Carnival has gone from strength to strength over
the past decade or more and has be-come a fixture in the local
calendar of events. Unfortunately, it now suffers from a lack of
willing volun-teers to help with its organisation and as a
result the Parish Council has taken the decision to provide
lim-ited administrative support to the Carnival Committee from
April this year. Although very grateful for this, the Committee
would nevertheless welcome new people to help them both plan the
event and organ-ise it on the day which this year is Sunday 12
September. Those interested should contact Glynis Elliot -
e-mail
bishopstokecarnival@sky.com or phone: 023 8022 7578 or come
to one of the meetings which are held on the third Monday of
each month in Meller House starting at 7.00pm.
Stoke Park Woods and footpaths
Exciting plans exist to improve the recreational facilities in
Stoke Park Woods and the Parish Council is grateful to County
Councillor Angela Roling for making a grant from her devolved
budget to allow the Parish Council to replace a frame on one of
the footpath information board and to fund the installation of
one of the new information boards to be erected at the entrance
to the Woods.
Asset transfer
Arrangements are well advanced for the transfer of
responsibility for management of both the Cemetery and the
allotments from the Borough Council to the Parish Council with
effect from 1 April 2010. More details on this and who to
contact will be published nearer the time.
The next meeting of the full Parish
Council will be on Tuesday 23 February 2010 at 7.30pm in the
Methodist Church Hall, Sedgwick Road, Bishopstoke.
The Planning Committee meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays
of each month at 7.00pm and the Finance and General Purposes
Committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.
All meetings of the Parish Council and its Committees are open
to the public.
Mr P J Storey OBE FCIS
Clerk to Bishopstoke Parish Council

Church News
The Church of England in
Bishopstoke
In Bishopstoke, there are two Church of England buildings, but
we think of ourselves as one Christian family – because we are!
St Mary’s is on Church Road in Old Bishopstoke,
and the main service is normally at 11 am on a Sunday.
St Paul’s is on Old Fair Oak Road (opposite The Welcome), and
the main service is normally at 9.30 am on a Sunday.
Each week there is at least one service that is appropriate for
children, or has children’s Christian activities.
We also have various mid-week activities, including a toddler
group and groups that meet for friendship, prayer and to look at
the Bible together.
We are always happy to hear from people who would like to be
prayed for or ask anything about Christianity.
For more details or to ask about anything, please contact Revd
Richard Wise or see our website.
