Basic computing courses at Botley
If you’re new to computers who would like to know more, read on. Starting in September the Botley Rural District library will be running some more courses in basic computing. There is no exam, no pressure, pace will be as slow as needed, all welcome, especially “Silver Surfers” (ie those ‘of a certain age’!). Small groups in a friendly setting.
Courses are run by a team of volunteers using the free computer service available at Botley Church and equipped by Hampshire Libraries. You’re very welcome to come along and just use the computers at the open IT sessions, which are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, (help, if needed, is on hand from a friendly expert), but also we plan one or more courses as below. Depending on demand, we’ll try and fit these in at times that suit you, so just ask and we’ll see if it can be done. Car park and bus stop nearby and just £2 per session to help defray costs.

Getting Started. If you have never used a computer, don’t know a mouse from a keyboard, would like to know how to use the power of the internet, then this is for you. If you have grandchildren, they may well talk to you more through the internet. If you have relatives or friends abroad, then emailing them is the easiest, cheapest way of staying in touch. But you need help to get started.

Using the Internet. How to connect, how to use browsers and search engines, how to shop online, buy and sell things on EBay, send Emails, use maps and satellite photos and so on and so on. This course will work through lots of options and websites, with opportunity for you to try everything out. It’s amazing what’s out there! No rocket science, this is designed for basic help for those who would like to know more about using the internet.

Basic Digital Photography. - See your photos large and bright. Transfer them from your camera to the computer, keep them safe and tidy, sort them into folders, use editing tools to make notes on the photos, crop pictures, make a super slide show, print them out, Email them to your friends. We ran this course a few months back and there are already people on a waiting list, having heard that it was enjoyable. Come and join them.

Everyone is welcome, from Botley or surrounding areas. To find out more, ring Dennis Wheeler on 01489 892911
